Microsoft Virtual PC Beta

To help assuage fears about Windows 7's dexterity with older apps, Microsoft recently announced Windows XP Mode--an add-on that runs veteran programs in a "virtual" XP environment, thus guaranteeing their compatibility. XP Mode was created with business users in mind, and consequently it's available only for Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise. That said, if you're a Vista user who's still struggling with software compatibility issues, you can download Microsoft's Virtual PC. It's free, and it offers more or less the same capabilities as Windows XP Mode. (And for that matter, XP Mode is available on the same download page.)

Note: This link takes you to the vendor's site, where you can download the version of the software appropriate for your system.
