DupeRAZOR - Duplicate Files Removal Kit
At a Glance
You've likely got dozens or even hundreds of duplicate files taking up megabytes of disk space on your PC. Duplicate photographs, music files, documents, and more clog up your system and take up useful storage. But good luck finding them all; duplicate files are often found in different directories, so it can be hard tracking them down. And they may even have different file names. DupeRazor Duplicate Files Removal Kit looks for duplicate files, then deletes the ones you don't want--at least, that's the idea. I found in my tests that it sometimes calls files duplicates that in fact are different files, so you'll want to use this tool with care.
Tell the DupeRazor which folders you want to check for duplicate files, then it goes about its business. It works quite quickly, and on my system checked several thousand files in only a few minutes. It then reports on files it believes are duplicates, putting files it believes are copies of one another into groups. Put a check box next to any file you want to delete, and the program kills the file and moves it to the Recycle Bin.
But be very careful before putting a check next to a file, because DupeRazor Duplicate Files Removal Kit sometimes calls files duplicates that aren't really duplicates. Right-click any file, select Open File, and you'll be able to view it. That way, you can make sure that the files really are duplicates.
If you have lots of duplicate files, are willing to check its work, and don't mind paying $20, you'll find DupeRazor a useful tool. Otherwise, it might not be worth your while. A better bet is the $30 Easy Duplicate Finder.
