Atlantis Word Processor (previously named Atlantis Ocean Mind) is a terrific little word processor. For only $35, you get most of the features available in big-name apps like Microsoft Word, plus a few innovative extras.

This word processor seems ideally suited for writers and students, with all the editing and formatting tools you'd expect, plus useful features like Overused Words, which can help improve your writing. Atlantis is fully compatible with Word 2007 and earlier versions; in fact, its interface is very similar to Word 2003. A few nice touches: the Open Document window (available from File, Open) includes a large preview field so you can easily browse documents; Save Special lets you compress and encrypt files from within Atlantis; the program is fully customizable, and you can save your settings in a desktop shortcut (handy for shared computers).

For all that I like about Atlantis Word Processor, it has one glaring omission: no version control or track changes feature. This makes it ill-suited for editors or people who frequently collaborate on documents. It's a real shame, because otherwise this little word processor is a real gem.
