When you upload your best photos you post to your Website or blog, why not profit from them? Online service BuyThisImage allows you to easily upload a shopping cart widget with your online photos, making it easy to try to turn a profit with your photography.

Signing up for a free account is uncomplicated. Setup is simple, which is good since their Help menu and FAQ page aren't available as options after you have logged on, and you have to log out to access them. They have direct support for PixelPost, Typepad, Blogger, WordPress (the self-install edition) and Movable Type. For other servers, you copy and paste the supplied two lines of Javascript or HTML onto your Web site.

When someone clicks the BuyThisImage widget under your photo, your price list pops up. Once they place an order, BuyTheImage contacts you to upload a high res image to them, and they take care of the rest. They say that they send out checks once a month.

Products available for sale include prints from 5"x7" to 24"x35", canvas prints 11"x14" to 30"x40", mousepads, mugs, t-shirts, and greeting cards. You can use their recommended pricing, set your own custom pricing or decide to make no profit (by putting your markup at $0.)

Although the BuyThisImage widget and account are free, they take 18% on all sales (15% commission plus 3% credit card processing), and they also deduct the actual cost of the sold item. When you set up your pricing, they clearly state exactly how much will go to them and how much you will pocket, for each item. They say they usually ship within 1-2 days; canvas prints can take 5 days. Though BuyThisImage welcomes international accounts and will mail checks anywhere in the world, all checks are paid in U.S. funds, they support only English-language sites and respond to only English inquiries.

BuyThisImage is a convenient option for bloggers and others who aren't ready to set up a professional portfolio Website, but still want to offer their photos for sale to the public.

Note: BuyThisImage is free to use, but the vendor takes a percentage of the profits from any images sold. This link takes you to the vendor's site, where you can sign up for this online service.
