In its latest phone, the Droid 3 on Verizon, Motorola put considerable thought in the specs of the phone but seems to have overlooked one important aspect: repairability.
The folks over at iFixit recently got their hands on a Droid 3 and decided to see what made it tick. Besides the TI OMAP processor and Gorilla Glass display, they also found that Motorola doesn't want people snooping around inside its devices.
With hidden screws under labels, you're going to need a torx screwdriver to open the phone up Strangely enough if you want to replace your Droid 3 screen (should it somehow break or get scratched), you're going to have to disassemble the entire phone-even remove the keyboard.
Although the phone took quite a while to take apart, iFixit gave Motorola points for an easy to replace battery and straightforward disassembly.
Still, if your Droid 3 should breakdown and you are still under warranty, it might be easier to just take it in for repairs and leave the teardowns to the professionals. You'll save yourself some grief and won't risk damaging your device any more than it already is.
