Andriasang reports that Namco Bandai has launched the first of a proposed new series of iPhone navigation applications called Character Navi. The first entry in the series is based around Gundam, and besides offering standard navigation features, it also offers "battle events" on the map.
Fortunately for you as driver (and any police officers watching) succeeding in these battle events doesn't require any interaction on your part -- simply drive past the location of the enemy Mobile Suit on the map and you'll defeat them. Screenshots suggest your score is tracked throughout your journey -- will this lead to people repeatedly showing up late to appointments because they wanted to chase down an enemy Mobile Suit?
The bad news? It's only available for Japanese iPhone 4 and 3GS owners right now, and costs ¥3,500 (about $45) for a year's usage.
If LucasArts doesn't steal this idea and make a Star Wars trench run navigation app, it's missing a massive opportunity.
