Windows 7 and Vista display most mainstream and multimedia file types in a preview pane. Activate it by going to Windows Explorer (click Start and type "explorer.exe" in the "Search programs and files" box) and clicking the icon in the upper right corner. Unfortunately, if a multimedia file type is not associated with Windows Media Player, you'll see only an icon of its associated application. Not to worry. A utility called PreviewConfig.exe from winhelponline.com will let you preview a slew of lesser known file types.

Note: This link takes you to the vendor's site, where you can download the latest version of the software.
