Sure, it's cheap. But unless you're comfortable with computer arcana such as COM ports and IRQs, spend a little extra money to get better speed and less aggravation. The latest SmartLink takes 3:46 to download 1MB of data, 13 seconds slower than our Best Buy, IBM's Modem Internet Kit. Even worse, its confusing manual will send new users running for support, which turns out to be another disappointment. Reps are on call just 8 hours per day, weekdays only.
