Packard Bell Multimedia 7900

BEST USE: A good starter system for the home user who's not looking to play games.
WHAT'S HOT: A hefty 8.4GB hard drive, easy-open case, and nice bundle of software that includes Microsoft Word 97, Microsoft Works 4.5, and Money 99 are definite pluses. An easy-open case and spacious interior facilitate access to the system's two free drive bays and two free slots. All out-of-box amenities, including a setup sheet, a nicely written and published users guide, and color-coded ports are included.
WHAT'S NOT: The one-year parts and labor warranty is slim, although most resellers will augment it--for a price. Packard Bell's unimpressive reliability record, the middling quality of its 15-inch monitor, and lousy 3D performance kept it out of the Top 10. We wish Packard Bell would cut down on the herd of stickers pasted all over the system's front bezel.
VALUE: With improved 3D performance the Packard Bell would be a much better deal.
