Kyocera FS-3700+
|
A key difference between this model and its sibling, the FS-1700, is: This one is fast. Not many printers in its class can keep up with the FS-3700+'s text speed of 14.2 ppm. However, it costs somewhat more than the others (excluding tabloid-size models, of course). Then again, the FS-3700+ comes standard with the rear-exit paper tray that sells as an option on the FS-1700+. Print quality on the FS-3700+ could be better: A subtle grayish shadow surrounds text.
A host of minor complaints apply to both Kyocera models. For example, the manual's incorrect setup instructions tell you to run the Windows Add Printer Wizard, which doesn't work, instead of directing you to Kyocera's own installer on the CD, which does the job nicely. A recalcitrant manual-feed tray resists opening and struggles against extending its flaps. And the control panel left us dazed and confused thanks to dual-function buttons and menus that didn't make sense even with the manual open.
In contrast, here's one good design feature: If the FS-3700+ jams, you can open the door and slide the whole interior out on rails. The printer's design leaves nowhere for crumpled paper to hide.
