Say goodbye to the cartoon face that welcomed you upon launch and the grey background that was more than a little drab. Lyft has a new balloon logo—it’s still pink, and it’s still a balloon, but it’s a little more sophisticated than the pink balloon of old.
Then there’s the newly white-washed background, which makes the app look brighter and its green and pink-hued fonts more vibrant. The biggest change regular Lyft riders—and drivers—will notice is the navigation bar, which is no longer a sad, dark grey. Your name and profile photo appear at the top of the simple white menu, still accessible by tapping the top left dropdown bar.
“The app also lives and breathes in real-time,” Lyft senior designer Marc Haumann wrote in a Thursday blog post. “When you pull out the new menu, cars on the map keep moving behind you, and your current location continues to pulse.”
The fonts are better. The colors are better. It was an update I didn’t even realize I wanted, having been Lyft-less for the last year, but with the app set to launch in my neck of the woods (Brooklyn) this Friday, it seems like Lyft is freshening up for its big debut.
That is, if the service manages to get wheels up before New York cracks down.
Lyft’s new look is iOS-only for now, though the app is now compatible with Android Wear smartwatches.
