Cast of Firefly reunites for Firefly: Online game
We may never see another episode of Firefly, Joss Whedon's cult classic space-western show that Fox aired 11 episodes of before unceremoniously canceling the whole thing because Men In Suits Just Don't Understand. Put it up there next to Party Down, Freaks And Geeks, and Dead Like Me on the list of everlasting injustices. But now, Firefly fanatics are being tossed a might big bone: Firefly Online—a video game based on the series.
While normally that would set off klaxons and make me run for cover, there is an intriguing twist to this story: At San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, developers Quantum Mechanix and Spark Plug Games announced the original Firefly cast is providing voicework for the game. Yes, all of them.
Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher, and Ron Glass have already recorded their bits. Jewel Staite, Gina Torres, and Summer Glau will be in the studio soon.
The game was originally slated only for iOS and Android, but is now coming to PC and Mac. All four versions are scheduled to release in spring 2015, and you can catch your first glimpse of game footage (as well as Nathan Fillion) in the trailer above, or get more information at the official website.
Don't get me wrong—the game might still fail at, you know, the game part. The voice actors reuniting ultimately have little to do with the quality of the game. Still, it's at least an indication that the developers are trying to do right by fans. We'll have to wait until release to see the end result.
