KDS AV-195T
KDS AV-195T
WHAT'S HOT: The AV-195T missed the Top 10 chart by a hair. It displayed text with slightly more dexterity than graphics, receiving above-average marks for clarity in spreadsheets. Color appeared rich in a test photo of Olympic runners, but its overall marks for graphics display were average. At $499, this KDS model is one of the few monitors in this review to drop below the $500 barrier.
WHAT'S NOT: What dragged the AV-195T away from a charting finish were poor ratings for features and support. The monitor lacks controls for brightness and contrast on its front bezel, which means you have to call up the on-screen menu to make these commonly used adjustments. Moreover, the on-screen menu is clumsy to navigate. And if things go wrong, the company's technical support is available for only nine hours a day on weekdays and not on weekends.
WHAT ELSE: At 18.6 inches, the depth of the AV-195T doesn't qualify it as a "short-neck" monitor, but KDS does make the back of the case narrow, enabling it to fit into tighter spaces than most 19-inchers fit into. Graphics professionals will appreciate the display's BNC-5 ports.
BEST USE: Offices that can get by with a light feature set will appreciate the low price tag and solid display quality of the AV-195T. Home users might shy away from the limited support hours.
