Hewlett-Packard CD-Writer Plus 9200i

Hewlett-Packard CD-Writer Plus 9200i

SUMMARY

WHAT'S HOT: Hewlett-Packard's 9200i remains our drive of choice for pros who need SCSI's ability to handle multiple devices with a single adapter. With a $299 price that's competitive with high-performance IDE models, the 9200i offers speedy performance and low CPU usage. This drive comes with the same clearly written instructions common to all HP drives. Plus, the generously illustrated, multilingual documentation is supplemented by an AVI movie that covers in detail the physical installation of the drive. The software bundle includes disaster-recovery, cataloging, and backup utilities, as well as Adaptec's Easy CD Creator 3.5 and DirectCD 3.0.

WHAT'S NOT: The added cost of a SCSI adapter for those who don't already own one will knock the price up at least $50.

WHAT ELSE: HP includes labeling software and a nifty label-application tool. The company provides an industry-standard one-year warranty along with 12-hour weekday support, but you'll have to pay any toll charges.

BEST USE: Pros who burn lots of CD-R discs and who also want the quickest possible CD-RW performance will love this drive.

SCSI, internal, 8X/4X/32X, 4MB buffer, CD-mastering and packet-writing software, disaster-recovery program, CD media-labeling and cataloging utilities, one-year warranty, 12-hour weekday support.
