Hansol 710D

Hansol 710D

WHAT'S HOT: The 710D's attractive low price of $279 matches its good looks--it's one of two new flat CRTs we tested this month. (The CTX PR790, which debuts at number four this month, also features a flat CRT.) The 710D had above average image quality scores--text looked sharp, and colors in test photos looked lush and lively. Judges observed dense lettering on Word documents and particularly bright colors on Web pages.

WHAT'S NOT: Unfortunately, the 710D just fell short of making the chart because it lacks features commonly found on most monitors. For instance, it was set back by its lack of compliance with TCO standards, which sets strict guidelines for emissions and recyclable materials. Hansol also doesn't provide weekend support; almost all chart-makers offer tech support on weekends.

WHAT ELSE: Though the 710D did have one advanced on-screen control, the zoom feature, the controls themselves were difficult to maneuver through.

BEST USE: Businesses looking for an affordable monitor that's good for both text and graphics but comes without some high-end controls.
