WHAT'S HOT: Boasting speedy Quake III performance--85 frames per second at 16-bit color and 72 fps at 32-bit color--the Hercules 3D Prophet DDR-DVI also throws in DVD hardware acceleration. Whether you want output through the S-video port, Digital Visual Interface output, or composite output (through an included adapter cable), you'll get great DVD-Video playback with this card. It also managed much higher frame rates in Unreal Tournament than did both the Erazor X2 and the 3D Blaster Annihilator Pro.

WHAT'S NOT: The 3D Prophet's performance wasn't enough to land it in the top spot. And considering the card's $290 price, seeing a full game or two instead of just demos would be nice.

WHAT ELSE: Guillemot offers a three-year warranty on the 3D Prophet, with toll-free tech support for 10.5 hours each weekday.

BEST USE: If you're looking for a terrific gaming board with the added bonus of DVD hardware acceleration--and fine Unreal Tournament performance--the 3D Prophet is a solid choice.
