App Store Nears 25 Billion Downloads

The iOS App Store is rapidly approaching the 25 billion download mark, Apple has announced.

The company expects to hit the milestone very soon and will reward the person who downloads the 25 billionth app with a $10,000 App Store Gift Card.

The App Store for iOS first opened in July 2008, and contains more than half a million apps. Within its first year more than 1.5 billion apps had been downloaded. Downloads of both iOS and Android apps topped 1 billion during Christmas week alone in 2011.

In January 2011 the 10 billion milestone was reached and by July it had hit the 15 billion mark.

You can keep tabs on the precise number of App Store downloads on Apple's website.
