Known for his evocative storytelling in surreal settings, game designer Jonas Kyratzes has a new flash-based piece in circulation: The Fabulous Screech. This short, whimsical adventure game takes you to the magical world of Oddness Standing, and to unexpected truths about Screech, the cat.
The awesomeness of the Fabulous Screech is in its simplicity. You click on objects in the world, and enjoy the narrative, humor and oddities. Kryatzes’ imaginative lexicon gives the story a unique tone, and the stylized artwork with vibrant colors and thick outlines create a bold visual effect—reminiscent of a child's picture books.
The game takes place in a land called Oddness Standing, a setting first introduced in Kyratzes’ The Book of Living Magic. It stars the aforementioned Screech, who’s hosting a “fantastically flamboyant final performance” with his troupe of trained humans. It’s a mysterious, bittersweet journey, and one you’ll have to experience for yourself -- it’s also pretty short, so if you need a lift in spirits, give it a whirl.
You can find Screech at a number of Flash-centric sites; here’s the game at Newgrounds. If you feel so inclined, you can check out more of Kyratzes' work (and donate to support) at his official website.
