WHAT'S HOT: Boasting speedy Quake III performance--85 frames per second at 16-bit color and 72 fps at 32-bit color--the Hercules 3D Prophet DDR-DVI also throws in DVD hardware acceleration. Whether you want S-Video output, Digital Visual Interface output, or composite video (through an included adapter cable), you'll get great DVD-Video playback with this card. It also managed much higher frame rates in Unreal Tournament and Viper Racing than did both the Erazor X2 and the 3D Blaster Annihilator Pro.

WHAT'S NOT: The 3D Prophet's performance wasn't enough to land it in the top spot. And considering the card's $290 price, seeing a full game or two instead of just demos would be nice.

WHAT ELSE: Guillemot offers a three-year warranty on the 3D Prophet, with toll-free tech support for 10.5 hours each weekday.

BEST USE: If you're looking for a terrific gaming board with the added bonus of DVD hardware acceleration--and fine Unreal Tournament and Viper Racing performance--the 3D Prophet is a solid choice. Just keep in mind that the chip in this board is no longer the latest.
