Hack an Arcade Fighting Stick for Your PlayStation Vita

[Photo: imaginglabo]The PlayStation Vita is home to some pretty serious fighting games like Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 (UMvC3) and Street Fighter X Tekken.

While the screen offers great high-resolution picture, the controls are basically a clone of the DualShock 3; which any fighting game fan will always attest is inferior to a fighting stick. Without any official peripheral, one Japanese modder rigged an arcade stick to work with the portable system.

The video above shows how the modded arcade stick works with a PS Vita playing UMvC3--albeit with some fairly visible input lag. But, hey, this is a pretty good first attempt, and it also works with the stick’s auto-fire feature. Whether you want to sacrifice the PS Vita’s portability or awkwardly carry around a peripheral that is significantly larger than the system itself is up to you, though.

The modder didn't leave any information as to how they made it work beyond providing a single image of the PS Vita connected to an additional logic board, which I assume itranslates the inputs from the arcade stick to the PS Vita.

Also, check out the modder’s other builds, iwhich include a DualShock controller that works with the Nintendo 3DS and a lightweight version of the 3DS Circle Pad Pro (made by drilling a bunch of holes out of the peripheral’s bulky plastic body).
