If you’re one of the lucky ones with Android Wear 5.1.1, then there’s a nice little update waiting for you in the Google Play Music app.
You’re now able to scroll through your Listen Now, Recent Playlists, and Radio selections right on your watch.
The Listen Now section includes the songs and albums that you’ve recently played. The Recent Playlists shows the newest songs and albums you added and given a thumbs-up to. The Radio feature brings up the stations auto-generated by Google Play Music.
For now, you can only take advantage of this if you have the LG Watch Urbane or received the update to the Asus Zenwatch. If you have a Moto 360 or watch from another manufacturer, you’re just going to have to wait until it is updated to Android Wear 5.1.
The story behind the story: Android Wear 5.1 is a big step forward for the platform, and makes it feel significantly more mature. The Play Music capability also serves as a showcase to other apps for how to build in the right type of functionality on the watch, making sure to not do too much on such a small screen. Now watch makers just need to step it up and start kicking out those Android Wear 5.1 updates.
