Updated 4/25/16: Added more details about the update to the AT&T variant of the Galaxy S7 Edge.
There’s a big pile of Marshmallows floating down the Android update river this week. The LG V10 is one of many flagships that will get all the goodies that come with Android 6.0. With so much good news, let’s jump into it right away.
Each week, we compile all the major software updates to hit the Android ecosystem, including phones and tablets on U.S. carriers, unlocked phones, Android Wear smartwatches, and Android TV devices. Making sure your device is running the latest available software is a good housekeeping practice, ensuring you have the latest features with fewer bugs and gaping security holes.
LG V10: You can now use Marshmallow with one of the best cameras to be found in a smartphone thanks to the Android 6.0 update that’s rolling out. AT&T has this ridiculous rule that you can only ping the update server once every 24 hours, so if you strike out you’re stuck waiting longer. Best to just wait for the over-the-air update to show up.
Galaxy S7 Edge: An AT&T update is on the way that improves the responsiveness of the volume buttons, Wi-Fi performance, and includes the latest Android security patches. I got the update on my own S7 Edge, and the April security updates are now installed. There's one other addition you may not want: a DirecTV widget (AT&T now owns DirecTV). Hooray?
Galaxy S7: An update is coming to the non-edge model as well, with the AT&T changelog offering the same details for improvements.
Galaxy Note 5: Your thin and stylish phablet is next in line for Marshmallow. According to T-Mobile, you’ll get Android 6.0.1 and other improvements as part of a hefty 1.4GB update. Needless to say, make sure you’re on Wi-Fi and have plenty of battery juice before you start the download.
Galaxy S6 Edge+: Same story with the large-screened, curvy Edge from last year. T-Mobile says the update is live now, so hit that download button.
Galaxy Note Edge: The original, curvy phone is getting its turn at Marshmallow. Sprint says the over-the-air update has begun, so check now if you haven’t seen it come across yet.
Galaxy S5 Sport: According to Sprint, this ruggedized phone is also getting Android Marshmallow. The update will bring you all those nice features from Android 6.0 and presumably some performance upgrades.
Xperia Z2, Z3, Z3 Compact, Z2 Tablet: Sony always seems to update a minimum of five devices at once. That’s the case here, as this combination of phones and tablets are all set to receive Marshmallow. Xperia blog has firmware details and downloads, but your safest bet is to wait for the over-the-air download from Sony.
