That’s not a funny angle in the Acer Swift 7 photo above. That’s what a laptop looks like from the side when it’s been shaved down to just 9.98 mm thin. Debuting Wednesday morning before the IFA show in Berlin, the Swift 7 narrowly scores the thinness win over the HP Spectre 13.3, which measures 10.4 mm.

When it ships in October starting at $999, the Swift 7 will be the flagship for a new product line of slender laptops, though none of the others are this thin. The Swift 7’s all-aluminum body and its components weigh 2.48 pounds total.

In keeping with the theme, the 13.3-inch, Full HD (1920x1080) display sports a narrow bezel. It’s protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

Somehow, Acer squeezes a full laptop configuration into the Swift 7. It features a 7th-generation Intel Kaby Lake Core i5 CPU with up to 8GB of memory. A 256GB SSD supplies ample storage. Connectivity includes two USB 3.1 Type C ports for display, charging, and data transfer (probably at Gen 1, 5Gbps speed, as 10Gbps ports remain rare). You’ll see those ports on the little “chin” bulge on the right side of the Swift 7. Acer promises up to 9 hours of battery life.

Further details are as slim as the Swift 7 itself, but we’ll update you with more information as we get it. Meanwhile, admire the trendy dual-tone, gold-and-black finish on the chassis.
