HP Extends 'e-PC' Line
Stylish SMB desktop offers smaller footprint, menu of integrated electronic services.
Hewlett-Packard on Tuesday launched the SMB e-PC, the second in its "e-PC" line of smaller and more stylish desktop computers for businesses.
The SMB e-PC for small and medium-size businesses has a 15-inch flat-panel monitor and is only one-quarter the size of a traditional desktop PC, HP said in a written statement. Other features include an HP Universal Serial Bus modem, Web-based services, and integrated electronic services, such as a keyboard with one-touch access to the Internet. Prices for the SMB e-PC start at about $849, the news release said.
The SMB e-PC follows the launch earlier this year of the first in the e-PC line, the e-Vectra, aimed at the corporate user. (See "HP Unveils Streamlined e-Vectra.") HP's news release said the company has changed the name of the e-Vectra to the HP corporate e-PC to make it easier for customers to identify the product line, which HP said is intended to simplify and redefine the commercial-computing environment.
HP also launched a range of USB accessories for the SMB e-PC aimed at enabling customization for specific business tasks. The accessories include a wireless LAN adapter and small-business access point based on the 802.11b standard that allows shared Internet access for up to 15 e-PCs, a compact flash reader for fast image and data transfer, and a CD writer.
