Slightly larger than a three-hole paper punch, the bantamweight Canon BJC-55 bubble-jet color printer lets you print wherever you are. Powered by a lithium ion battery or an AC adapter, the printer connects to your PC via a USB or built-in Fast IrDA port.

Though it prints only one manually fed sheet at a time (an automatic sheet feeder is available for $59), the BJC-55 can produce 720-by-360-dpi printouts in a jiff, making it a convenient notebook accessory. It prints only 5.5 pages per minute with black ink, and about 2 per minute in color.

An optional $99 cartridge fits in the ink slot and transforms the printer into an instant scanner. The printer works with any Windows 98/2000/CE, Macintosh, or Palm machine, making it a perfect mobile printer for anyone on the go.

What's hot: Lightweight bubble jet prints anywhere on the fly.

What's not: One hand-fed sheet at a time.

Geek factor: Medium
