Cambridge SoundWorks Model 88CD Table Radio

Audio to make your PC sing.

It resembles a boxy clock radio with a CD player, but Cambridge SoundWorks' $349 Model 88CD Table Radio/CD player by Henry Kloss moonlights as a remarkable, compact subwoofer-powered PC speaker set. Its acute FM tuner helps signals leap through steel buildings in a single click, so you'll be able to hear more radio stations static-free.

The integrated subwoofer's bass response gives sound depth and clarity. Auxiliary inputs in the back let the Model 88CD serve as space-saving PC speakers, or you can use the ports to add an audio component, such as a cassette or MP3 player.

The built-in speakers are inseparable, but the radio's Wide setting will fool your ears. Also provided are a clock with a large, ambient-light-adjusting backlit LCD and dual alarm settings, and a small remote control.

What's hot: Great sound, compact size, and it doubles as a PC speaker set.

What's not: CD player is not programmable.

Geek factor: Low
