SUMMARY
CyberMax PowerMax

PRO: Inexpensive, fast, top support policies
CON: Documentation not integrated

AMD's K6 chip strikes again, this time inside the multimedia-wise CyberMax PowerMax, a Best Buy for the third month. Multimedia enthusiasts and game players will want to take a close look at this sturdy and expandable bargain-price tower, built around the 166-MHz version of AMD's PMMX-comparable K6 processor. With a PC WorldBench score of 223, the PowerMax is a match for some Pentium MMX-200 PCs, but it sells for just $1249.

The PowerMax has a 4MB Matrox Mystique 220 video card and a sharp Princeton EO50 monitor. Sound is handled well by Ensoniq's AudioPCI wavetable sound system and Altec Lansing ACS 45 speakers with subwoofer. CyberMax throws in a couple of 3D game titles, as well as Corel's WordPerfect Suite.

The user guide provides little info about the system, leaving you with just the component manuals. The support policies are solid, with a three-year warranty on parts, one-year coverage on labor, and round-the-clock technical support.
