Sixteen sixth-graders help you save on software: What's worth the money and what isn't.

Winning (and Not So Winning) Web sites

Our reviewers try out a trio of popular cyberdestinations.

Avery Kids (http://www.avery.com/kids). "I didn't like this site. If you want to buy Avery products, come here, but if you surf just for fun, I don't think it's for you. In the games area there are some interesting games, but you need Shockwave--an add-on for your Web browser--to play them." Reviewer: Matthew Eckstein, Easton Area Middle School

Route 6-16(http://www.microsys.com/616)."Route 6-16 contains three links: School Work, Play, and Parents and Teachers. As the title says, it is for kids 6 to 16 years old. In Play, you find links to games, sports, arts, and other fun things. In School Work, you have reference listings like encyclopedias and libraries, and homework help. In Parents and Teachers, there is advice for adults and kids on the benefits and dangers of the Web. There are also a lot of Web pages done by children for children with lots of exciting links and fun things to do. You can also create your own Web page. I graded this Web site Great because it is very descriptive and interesting. It makes schoolwork fun." Reviewer: Keyla Garcia, Mott Hall School

National Geographic Online(http://www.nationalgeographic.com). "I visited the store first, but there wasn't anything I was interested in. In one of the information areas, I learned about Chuck Yeager, and in another I saw waves and read about them. I rated this site OK because it had some fun parts and some boring parts." Reviewer: Torrie Edwards, Dwight School
