Zip Drive Death Click Is for Real

AOL's Instant (Insecurity) Messenger

Like the buffer-overrun flaws recently exposed in Internet Explorer 4.0, America Online's original Instant Messenger chat program is vulnerable to hack attacks. Specifically, a knowledgeable (and malicious) user can send a message that causes Instant Messenger to crash. The bug was discovered by a 14-year-old in Tampa, Florida. In late February, America Online posted an updated version of the program (at www.aol.com/aim/home.html ) that closes the security hole.
