Step 3: Buy Your Memory
Consult your dealer, your PC maker's Web site, or Kingston Technology's site (www.kingston.com/catalog/memory/mem-idx.htm) for guidance on how to buy exactly the right memory for your PC.
If you're adding SIMMs, be prepared to grapple with many potential gotchas, particularly if you try to mix and match modules of different capacities. (In theory doing this should not raise problems, but in reality it occasionally does.) Pentium-based PCs require that SIMMs be installed in pairs. And depending on how many of your SIMM slots are already filled, you may need to remove existing SIMMs and replace them with higher-capacity models.
Because the industry has standardized on 16MB SIMMs, in many instances your best bet is to buy a pair of those.
If you're adding DIMMs, the task of selecting the modules is relatively straightforward.
