A CD-RW recorder/player not much larger than a standard CD case has been released by Addonics Technologies.

The 8X/4X/24X Pocket CD-RW measures 5.62 by 5.31 by .8 inches and weighs 14 ounces, according to Addonics. The unit is priced at $459 for a USB or CardBus version, and $499 for a Firewire model. Each drive comes with Adaptec's Easy CD Creator and Deluxe CD mastering software. They can be used with PC or Apple Macintosh systems.

Supports DVD

Addonics Pocket CD-RW works with CD-R and CD-RW media discs. It lets you record your own CD-ROM data at 8X speed, and read CD-R or CD-RW discs, video CDs, music CDs, and photo CDs at 24X speed. You can also play the recorded CD-RW media in a DVD player or multimedia CD-ROM player.

Addonics expects to provide an upgrade to support USB 2.0 when that interface spec is released later this year. The Firewire version can be powered from the Firewire port, keeping the drive portable and practical for use with notebooks.

The device requires Windows 95/98/NT/2000 or Mac OS 9.0. Systems need at least 32MB of memory, 50MB of hard drive space, and an appropriate port.
