Nasdaq Introduces Portfolio Tracking Service
Free service to offer daily stock and financial news.
The Portfolio Tracking service will let you monitor as many as 10 securities on Nasdaq, the New York Stock Exchange, the American Stock Exchange, mutual funds and options, as well as receive news stories and other information from the Reuters News Service and the Business Wire press release service.
Nasdaq will then provide its member companies with the e-mail addresses of the Portfolio Tracking subscribers who are following those companies stocks, said John Wall, executive vice president at Nasdaq. The service will benefit both investors and Nasdaq members, who usually have no knowledge about the people buying their stock, Wall said.
Later this year, Nasdaq will add to the service a Java-based scrolling ticker with the logos of the companies in the portfolios as well as links to information from major foreign markets, according to John Delta, director of operations at Nasdaq%squots issuer services department. Nasdaq also is considering technology that would send an e-mail alert to a subscriber if a stock moved by a specified percentage, Delta said.
The new service will not generate revenue for Nasdaq, Wall said, but the benefits of helping its member companies and encouraging investing on its market will make up for that. %dquotWhen the Web takes off, a large number of investors are going to be online. We can no longer say %squotWe can%squott give you the information, %dquot he said.
Wall said subscribers%squot e-mail addresses won%squott be shared with brokerage firms.
