Kodak Unveils First USB-based Camera
Color DVC 300 will support videoconferencing, still images.
Eastman Kodak today announced the first USB-based peripheral product, the DVC 300 Digital Video Camera, at the Demo Conference in Indian Wells, California. Designed primarily for videoconferencing, the product can also capture still images. At a projected street price of only $200, it should open color videoconferencing to many home and small-office users.
The DVC 300 includes simple editing software for still images, but most users won%squott think of it for taking family snapshotsat least not out on the front lawn or on the family vacation to Disneyland. The camera must stay tethered to your computer because it lacks batteries or an AC adapter. All power comes from the high-speed USB port that is expected to gradually replace parallel and serial ports on many computers. The camera is scheduled to ship in the second quarter of this year.
