Diamond Ships $500 Ultra SCSI Hard Drive Kit

Bundle includes award-winning FirePort 40 Ultra SCSI host adapter, Quantum Fireball 2.1GB hard drive, and software.

The FirePort 40 is designed to provide all the bandwidth required for multimedia applications to run smoothly. It works with a range of SCSI peripherals, such as hard drives, Zip and Jaz drives, CD-R drives, and scanners--up to 15 devices with transfer rates up to 40MB per second.

The FirePort 40 also supports new internal high-capacity Ultrawide SCSI hard drives and, with an upgrade kit due in April, will support external Ultrawide SCSI devices.

Quantum%squots Fireball boasts seek times as low as 10.5 milliseconds, and its Ultra SCSI-3 interface supports burst data rates of up to 20MB per second.

The software bundle is geared to people who will use the FirePort 40 with a CD-R drive. Gear 4.0 allows users to master virtually any CD-ROM format. WebGrabber 1.0 allows CD-R recording of content directly from the Internet, and Gear Replicator 1.0 helps create duplicates of almost any CD format. The kit also includes Diamond%squots installation and advanced SCSI diagnostic utility.

If purchased separately, the Fireball goes for around $325 and the FirePort 40 for about $199. In addition to the small cash savings and the software, the kit also saves you the hassle of worrying about whether your new hard drive is compatible with your interface.
