3Com to Drop U.S. Robotics Brand Name
Company will offer easy upgrades no matter which 56K standard is adopted.
3Com Chairman Eric Benhamou said on Wednesday that the company will eliminate the U.S. Robotics brand name following the expected completion of its merger with the modem giant later this year.
In an address outlining strategy for the combined companies, Benhamou said that products such as U.S. Robotics%squot Sportster modems and Pilot handheld organizers have greater marketing value than the U.S. Robotics name.
Benhamou gave few specifics in answer to a question about 3Com%squots choice of a 56-kbps modem technology. He said the company%squots hardware could be easily upgraded by downloading software. A 56K standard is expected next year.
