WHAT'S HOT: Text print quality looks a bit light but clean and precise, and narrow lines appear distinct. Speeds of 9.8 pages per minute for text and 3.1 ppm for graphics put the P1210 ahead of the pack. Xerox sells two sizes of toner cartridge for this printer, one good for 3000 pages and one for 6000; the latter is fairly high capacity for a small-office/home-office model.

WHAT'S NOT: At $499, the P1210 is expensive. We can't figure how Xerox expects the DocuPrint P1210 to sell at its current price when there are plenty of better-equipped competitors for the same or less money. Also, the P1210's gray-scale graphics have a choppy texture and miss some detail.

WHAT ELSE: Xerox sells a 550-sheet add-on feeder for the P1210 that costs a reasonable $189. A $193 optional ethernet puts the P1210 on a network.

BEST USE: The DocuPrint P1210 is not a bad printer, but it's pricier than many other lasers that are as good or better.
