Dell Wields Direct-Sales Sword to Cut PC Prices

Price of network-ready OptiPlex series drops as much as 13 percent.

Dell Computer Corp. is once again flexing its direct-sales muscles by announcing price reductions of as much as 13 percent across its line of network-ready OptiPlex corporate desktop PCs.

The company credits its distribution model for the price cuts, which are available immediately. This is the third time this year that prices on the OptiPlex line have been reduced.

The OptiPlex Gs 5200L, which features a 200-MHz Pentium MMX processor, 32MB of RAM, and a 2GB hard drive, previously cost $1944 and is now priced at $1814, a savings of 6.7 percent.

The OptiPlex GXi 5200L, which features a 200-MHz Pentium MMX processor, 32MB of RAM, and a 4GB hard drive, previously cost $3030 and is now priced at $2648, a savings of 12.6 percent.

The OptiPlex GXi 5233T, which features a 233-MHz Pentium MMX processor, 64MB of RAM, and a 3GB hard drive, previously cost $2696 and is now priced at $2497, a savings of 7.4 percent.
