AOpen CRW1232A
WHAT'S HOT: The AOpen drive is one of the least expensive 12X/10X/32X drives we've tested. In addition, the AOpen CRW1232A is a great performer, logging one of the best results of the 12X/10X/32X drives we've tested in writing our 650MB file on the fly (6 minutes, 51 seconds). In packet-writing our 100MB file, its time of 1 minute, 25 seconds (the fourth fastest of any drive) was an insignificant 2 seconds behind the TDK drive.
WHAT'S NOT: This drive is available in retail stores only in the western United States; if you want it in other parts of the country, you'll have to resort to one of several small online vendors. The 12-hour tech support AOpen provides is available on weekdays only, and you pay any toll charges
WHAT ELSE: AOpen backs the drive with a one-year warranty. The drive comes with Ahead Nero Burning ROM 5.0.3 and Ahead InCD 1.76 for CD-mastering and packet-writing tasks, respectively.
BEST USE: The affordably priced AOpen CRW1232A has top-flight CD-R performance for its speed class, and it's a good choice--if you can find it.
