FileMaker Pro and HomePage Work Together in Latest Releases
Claris announces tighter integration between new versions of its FileMaker Pro database and HomePage Web authoring software.
The integration will provide a one-shop stop for a database-driven Web site, Claris said.
Claris will release a public beta of FileMaker Pro 4.0 Monday in advance of its October release.
FileMaker will sell for $199. Its Instant Publishing feature will enable users to manage a FileMaker database remotely over a Web browser without having to create additional forms or Web pages. Users can tie directly into FileMaker documents from HTML pages. FileMaker uses the browser%squots security and enables simultaneous user access to the database.
With its Custom Web feature, FileMaker can serve data dynamically and store common graphic and multimedia formats used on the Web. Within the product, a Java-enabled icon lets users navigate lengthy databases visually, and a new Microsoft Excel import feature automatically translates it into a FileMaker database.
A public beta of HomePage, to further showcase the integration, will be released at the time FileMaker Pro ships.
In addition to bringing easy administration to database integration, HomePage 3.0 will feature intuitive site management and numerous design templates.
The database integration will happen through a FileMaker Pro Connection Assistant within Home Page. It will enable users to have the integration without needing special scripting or additional third-party software.
Claris HomePage 3.0 will cost $99 or $49 for registered FileMaker users. It will ship in December.
