Intel to Slash Pentium Prices 20 Percent
Average price cut across product line heralds holiday PC bargains.
Intel today announced price cuts of around 20 percent throughout its Pentium and Pentium II processor lines.
Starting today, the 300-MHz Pentium II processor costs PC manufacturers $738 , down from $850 the previous quarter. The 266-MHz Pentium II chip drops from $669 to $530, and the 233-MHz Pentium II dropped from $530 to $400. Prices of systems based on these processors are expected to drop accordingly.
Intel attributed the falling prices to continued improvements in manufacturing yields.
