CardExpert GeForce3 Power Pack
WHAT'S HOT: Frame rates for the CardExpert GeForce3 Power Pack were a little higher than those of the ELSA Gladiac 920 at most resolutions, and were high enough for this card to achieve a score of Outstanding in the overall speed category. Thanks to a $20 price cut this month, this card is also $40 cheaper than the ELSA Gladiac 920.
WHAT'S NOT: You don't get a full game or any color-correction software. Although this card produced very high frame rates, the colors were not particularly vivid and were a little unrealistic. For instance: The blood on Quake III looked brown rather than red, and this board's output on Test Drive 6 looked a little dull and much less appealing than the results produced by the ELSA Gladiac 920. Still, its image quality rates better than many other boards.
WHAT ELSE: This card is aimed not only at gamers but also at users who want to edit video, which is why Ulead's VideoStudio 4 software is bundled. In addition to composite- and S-Video-out ports, it also has video-in ports for both composite and S-Video that can capture clips from an analog camcorder or another video source. A DVD playback program is also included.
UPSHOT: This is a good, well-priced card for those who want to combine the power of the GeForce3 with the ability to edit video.
