Mailing Lists Deliver Tech Info

Subscribe to these mailing lists and stay tuned in to the latest Web sites, technologies, and products.

Scouring the ever-growing Internet for specific information can be a tedious process. Why not let a mailing list do the work for you? If you%squotre looking for the latest technology news and products, or just curious about what%squots new on the Web, check out these lists.

Netsurfer Digest
%dquotMore Signal, Less Noise%dquot is the motto of this weekly cyberspace e-zine. You%squotll find blurbs on the latest technology news and products, plus URLs for the full story. For example, I found the URL for AT&T%squots privacy technology, aptly called Crowds, and a description of another site called The Motion-Picture Industry: Behind the Scenes, which details, among other things, how to make your own film. To subscribe, click the Netsurfer Digest link at right.

Freak Technology Update
Although it%squots just a handful of blurbs detailing the newest technologies, this newsletter is a great read. One week the Update reported that the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory developed a new coating material that may lead to increased storage capacity in hard drives. The next issue announced the development of the Rosen TurboFlywheel hybrid electric power-train, a new motor for passenger cars that will provide sports car-like acceleration, high gas mileage, and no emissions. URLs to relevant Web pages are provided. To subscribe, send a message to Freaktech-text-subscribe@sunsite.auc.dk. In the body of the message, type subscribe.

Daily Spectrum
David Duberman, publisher of the last remnant of the late technology magazine Morph%squots Outpost on the Digital Frontier, keeps the flame alive with Daily Spectrum. Duberman%squots newsletter covers the latest software products and computer industry events with an emphasis on the Internet and interactive media. To subscribe, send e-mail to duberman@dnai.com and ask nicely.

Web Producer-Digest
David Siegel, author of Killer Web Sites and president of Verso, a Web design company, puts out this daily digest. A popular read among Web designers, the Digest provides answers to nagging tagging issues and insight into pulling together a complex site without much client support. Questions such as, %dquotHow do I get my site to come up higher on a search engine?%dquot often appear. To subscribe, send an e-mail to majordomo@secretsites.com and type subscribe producer-digest in the body of the message.

The Tourbus
One of the slickest and most established around, The Tourbus is a %dquotweeklyish%dquot newsletter written by Alabaman, crazy man, and squirrel-obsessed Patrick Douglas Crispen of Network Solutions. An ambler by nature, Crispen posts info on one or more of the interesting Web sites he stumbles upon. Recent themes include ASCII Art: Cybercows and More, Encryption for the Masses, Free Pizza, and Advanced Searching Techniques. Though the information he provides is worth the read, it%squots Crispen%squots personality that%squotll keep you coming back. For a good laugh, check out the Southern %dquotwurd%dquot of the day at the bottom of each message. To subscribe, send an e-mail to listserv@listserv.aol.com and type subscribe tourbus and your name in the body of the message.
