Electronic Whiteboard Makes Meeting Notes a Snap-Shot

Affordable Ibid board captures multicolor text and drawings.

Electronic whiteboards are the Etch-A-Sketches of the business world. Write on them with a marker and your text or drawings appear on your computer screen where they can be conveniently saved or printed out. While useful for catching workgroup meeting notes, electronic whiteboards have traditionally cost $2,000 or more. So when MicroTouch Systems said they had an electronic whiteboard for $500, I was skeptical. But after trying it out I have to say that MicroTouch%squots Ibid board--with a 2-by-3 foot writing surface--does a good job for a fraction of the cost.

It can capture multicolored drawings and text, save information in PC memory and incorporate those meeting notes into most Windows-based applications, such as word processing, presentations, and e-mail.

Setup was easy. I connected the serial cord from the whiteboard to my notebook PC and the install routine found an available port. However, there are potential problems, because some notebook PCs have serial ports preassigned for communications purposes. Before you buy Ibid, ask your notebook PC vendor if the serial port can be used for jobs other than communications.
