Netscape, Sun Improve Web Tools and Products

Companies to jointly promote and license Sun%squots Internet file system.

Netscape Communications and Sun Microsystems today tightened their alliance on Internet and intranet technologies.

The companies announced that future Netscape products will support WebNFS, Sun%squots Internet file system. They also pledged to ensure that Sun%squots Joe connectivity software will work with the Netscape ONE (open network environment).

WebNFS, which allows users to access files stored on the Internet and intranets, will be embedded in future versions of Netscape%squots Communicator client software, officials said. The companies will also jointly promote, license, and market WebNFS.

Other companies that have announced support for WebNFS in their products include Oracle, Spyglass, IBM, Apple Computer, and Novell.
