Handspring Revives Popular PDA

Visor Platinum is once again available, but for a limited time only, company says.

Palm OS-compatible PDA maker Handspring on Tuesday announced that it is once again offering its Visor Platinum PDA, at least for a limited time.

The Visor Platinum costs $169 and comes in a silver casing.

Handspring Vice President of Product Marketing Joe Sipher explains that the Visor Platinum was one of the company's most successful products.

"We sold out of Visor Platinum during the holidays and since then we've had strong interest from our customers in bringing the product back. We are re-releasing the product for a limited time to meet this demand," says Sipher.

Features and Functions

Like Handspring's other PDAs, the Visor Platinum sports a Springboard expansion slot which can be used to add additional capabilities not built-in to the PDA, such as GPS, cell phone, added memory expansion, and many other functions.

The Visor Platinum ships with a USB-based cradle and is compatible with Mac OS and Windows computers, and features compatibility with Palm OS-compatible software.

The Visor Platinum features Motorola's DragonBall VZ 33-MHz processor and comes equipped with 8 MB of RAM. The system uses a monochrome display capable of supporting 4-bit greyscale images, and runs on two AAA batteries.
