Big, Sharp Monitors--Cheap!

Think you can afford only a 17-inch monitor? New 19- and 21-inch models are surprisingly inexpensive.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall, and prices of big monitors have plummeted 30 percent since our August 1998 roundup.

Back then, the 19-inch models that made our Top 10 Monitor chart averaged about $820. But the average cost of models in our upcoming February 1999 roundup has dropped to around $630. Despite the price drops, these monitors have maintained a consistently high standard of picture quality. And we've got some new winners--all but one of the five highest-ranking monitors have been displaced from our earlier chart.

In the same February review we also look at 21-inch models, for the first time since last April. The average price on our chart-making jumbo screens in April was hefty at about $1600. Buyers looking for the biggest standard desktop models will be pleased to know that our upcoming February article will reveal a steep drop of about $450 on the sharpest 21-inchers to an approximate average of $1149. And all but one of the models on the chart are new.

For more information and specific buying recommendations on these monitors, including Best Buys, see "Top 10 Monitors" in the upcoming February 1999 issue of PC World magazine.
