NEC-Mitsubishi MultiSync FE950+

WHAT'S HOT: The NEC MultiSync FE950+ earned high scores in both our graphics and our text image-quality tests, showing bright, accurate colors and sharp letters (although our judges thought its text was not as dense as on some other monitors).
WHAT'S NOT: The monitor's bezel has seven control buttons; some users may find the large number of controls confusing. In addition, the unit has a button to restore its factory settings, which could wipe out your custom settings if you press it accidentally. Fortunately, you must confirm that you want to completely reset the monitor.
WHAT ELSE: The documentation is adequate, if a little basic: It has only a single page covering troubleshooting, for instance. Like all monitors 17 inches and larger that have aperture grille tubes, the unit has two faint horizontal lines toward the bottom and the top of the display that you can see on lighter screens. (Smaller aperture grille monitors show only one line.) Most users don't notice these lines, but some find them rather irritating. An on-screen display lock allows you to save your settings and prevent other users from altering them. There are five color temperature settings.
UPSHOT: Although a little on the expensive side, the MultiSync FE950+ is a good monitor for those willing to pay a little extra for all-around performance.
