ViewSonic VE155

ViewSonic VE155

WHAT'S HOT: The VE155 costs just $399, making it one of the more affordable 15-inch LCDs currently available. Though the VE155 was not the top performer in our test group, it rendered adequately sharp text on our test screens, even at small point sizes.

WHAT'S NOT: Colors on the VE155 did not look as impressive and lively as they did on other models. For instance, on photographs, colors looked murkier and more washed-out than on comparable models. In particular, skin tones on our test photo of a group of children looked unrealistic.

WHAT ELSE: On-screen controls, managed by four buttons on the bezel, were fairly easy to use. ViewSonic includes a fine-tune control that allows you to sharpen text, and the auto-adjust sets the display to optimal levels for you.

The VE155 includes only a single analog input, and you can't pivot the panel to portrait mode. The stand height is not adjustable, but you can tilt the screen forward and backward to find the optimal viewing angle. The joint between the screen and the base was rather stiff on our review unit. Viewsonic sells an optional wall mount for $100.

UPSHOT: The VE155 is attractively priced and does an adequate job handling text, but you can find much better graphics performance with other models.
