Casio Unveils Credit Card-Size Camera
New models are the world's thinnest digital cameras to contain LCD monitors, company claims.
Casio Computer unveiled a camera on Monday that it says is the world's thinnest digital still camera equipped with an LCD monitor.
The Exilim comes in two models, the EX-S1 and the EX-M1. The EX-S1 is 3.46 inches wide and 2.16 inches high, about the size of a credit card. The camera measures .44 inches thick. The EX-M1 is the same width and height but .49 inches thick. The cameras weigh 2.9 ounces and 3.1 ounces, respectively.
Both cameras can record 1.2-megapixel quality still images and 30 seconds of 320-by-240-pixel moving images and replays.
The EX-M1 also features an MP3 audio replay function and a 50-minute voice recording function on 12 MB of internal flash memory, according to a Casio Computer statement.
Digital Details
Both products have a 4X digital zoom lens, a slot for either a Secure Digital card or MultiMediaCard and a 1.6-inch color thin film transistor LCD monitor. The battery will allow around 480 still images to be recorded.
The EX-M1 battery will last for an hour and 20 minutes of voice recording and five hours and 30 minutes of MP3 audio replay, the statement says.
The Exilim will be rolled out in Japan on June 21 and is expected to be priced at about $274 for the EX-S1 and $352 for the EX-M1.
The cameras will be released around the same time in Europe, but there is no fixed launch date for North America, the company says. Casio Computer expects to manufacture 50,000 units per month initially.
