Tip Jar: Be a Tab Hunter!
A wise safety idea and a great Web resource round out the Duo's camcorder search.
The Tip Jar invokes a '60s movie icon and the Duo make note of a top-notch site for still more information on which digital camcorders are worth your attention.
The Tip Jar delivers up the "Be a Tab Hunter" suggestion, and while Angela wonders if it's time to turn to the Internet Movie Database for enlightenment, Steve explains that the Carafe of Competence is merely giving a helpful pointer on how not to inadvertently overwrite your MiniDV masterpiece.
Every MiniDV tape has a little record-protection tab on it. If you hunt for that tab every time you take a tape out of the camera and slide it over to the side that says "save," you'll never accidentally overwrite some cherished memory. Put a protected tape in your camcorder, and it'll send up bells and icons and warnings. But it won't let you screw up.
Good advice, says, Angela, and while you're at it, label your tapes, not just their cases. That way you'll know what you've got even when some untidy soul mixes everything up.
Can't get enough of this camcorder talk? If both the Duo and the resources here at PCWorld.com haven't exhausted your curiosity yet, the Duo dig into their bookmark list and suggest CamcorderInfo.com, which offers the most comprehensive reviews of videocams that Steve and Angela have seen.
